Insurer, NFPA offers wildfire prevention project grants

It doesn’t feel like it, but wildfire season is right around the corner. In fact, nearly 2,600 wildfires burned over 700,000 acres in Ore. in 2015. Studies also show that wildfires now burn twice as much land as they did 40 years ago.

To help communities prepare for this consuming threat, State Farm and the National Fire Protection Agency are offering several $500 grants to bolster wildfire risk reduction projects.

The fourth annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is Saturday, May 6. State Farm and the NFPA are eager to support 150 communities with their preparedness day efforts.

“This is a great opportunity for local residents to protect their property while getting to know their neighbors,” said Brad Hilliard, State Farm spokesman. “From brush trimming and debris pick-up to defensible space education, there are plenty of ways to help protect and engage your neighborhood.”

Applications will be accepted through March 3rd.
