Soroptimist Intl. of Bend offers education financial awards

Back to school begins with an application to the Soroptimist International of Bend (SI Bend) educational award “Live Your Dream.”

Awards are in the amount of $2,000. One of the awards is earmarked for a Central Electric Cooperative member in good standing. Applications are available online at www.sibend.org . The deadline is November 15, 2017

The annual Soroptimist International of Bend “Live Your Dream” award may be used for any educational expense including tuition, child care and/or transportation by the awardees. “Live Your Dream” applicants must be entering into or enrolled in a college certificate/degree program, are head of a household and in need of financial help.

For over 30 years, the women’s service club, SI Bend has awarded more than $70,000 to local women. The annual SI Bend Holiday Wreath & Evergreen fundraising sale which is currently in process (see Holiday Wreath Sales at www.sibend.org ) supports these awards. This year marks the celebration of 75 years of SI Bend working to improve the lives of women and girls.

The number of awards given is dependent upon fundraising success and partnerships with community organizations. In the past, SI Bend has been pleased to partner with Harmony4Women and Central Oregon Realtors Association (COAR). SI Bend is gratified to have the ongoing support of CEC. Community support of the Holiday Wreath & Evergreen sales is always welcome.

Since 1943, Soroptimist International of Bend (SI Bend), has been providing 70 plus years of community support serving women and girls of Central Oregon. SI Bend is the longest, continuously running women’s service organization in Bend, OR, offering educational awards to local students, plus, supporting Bethlehem Inn, Head Start, Kids Center, Meals on Wheels, Grandma’s House, and more. Internationally, SI Bend’s outreach programs “Bras from Bend” assists’ women rescued from human trafficking especially from the sex slave trade through the campaign “Free the Girls.”
