Bend teen accused of costly damage to Crook County HS

A Bend 16-year-old faces criminal mischief and criminal trespass charges in Prineville, accused of causing more than $24,000 in damage at Crook County High School early last month, police said Wednesday.

A school employee reported the damage to school property, including stage curtains in the school auditorium, on Sept. 3, said Prineville police Capt. Larry Seymour.

The damage occurred during an after-school function, Seymour added. Police sgt. Mark Monroe provided photos of the slashed curtains, which he said were recently purchased by the school. He could not comment on what was used to cause the damage.

After an investigation of evidence, including video surveillance, the Bend teen, a 16-year-old male, was identified as the suspect. He was located in Redmond on Tuesday and taken into protective custody on charges of first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass, the captain said.

He was taken to Prineville and released to the custody of the Crook County Juvenile Department.
