La Pine man cited in DUII crash into Sunriver waterfall

A La Pine man was taken to the hospital and cited for DUII and reckless driving Friday morning after crashing his SUV into a waterfall feature at the entrance to Sunriver Resort, police said.

Sunriver police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly after 7 a.m. to the crash into the waterfall feature on the roundabout at South Century Drive and Abbott Drive, said Police Chief Marc Mills.

When they determined the driver of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, John Teters, 42, of La Pine, needed medical care, Sunriver Fire Department medics were called and evaluated Teters, taking him to St. Charles Bend with non-life-threatening injuries, Mills said.

Based ont he police investigation, assisted by the sheriff’s office, Teters was cited for DUII-alcohol and reckless driving.

As the investigation continues, witnesses to Teters’ driving or the crash can contact Sunriver police at 541-593-1014, Mills said.
