Two to split $9 million Oregon Megabucks jackpot
Two lucky people will share the $9 million Oregon’s Game Megabucks jackpot.
For the Wednesday night drawing, two tickets had the winning numbers for the $9 million Oregon’s Game Megabucks jackpot, the top jackpot for the game this year. The winners will each take home $4.5 million.
While the Lottery knows where the winning tickets were purchased, in Portland and Sandy, it doesn’t know who the winners are. They have not yet appeared at the Lottery headquarters to claim their prizes.
The last time two tickets shared the Megabucks jackpot was in April 2009. Those winners split a $7.2 million jackpot.
This marks the 13th time since 1985 that there have been multiple jackpot winners for a single Megabucks drawing. In August 1988, three winning Megabucks jackpot tickets divided a $5 million jackpot. All other shared prizes had just two winning tickets.
Players have one year from the date of the draw to claim the prize, and as of Friday, neither winner had contacted the lottery. The winning numbers for the Oct. 25 drawing are 12-21-30-42-44-47.
The most recent Megabucks jackpot winner was Michelle Sutherland, a retired U.S. Postal Service worker, from Springfield, who won $7 million last June.
Proceeds from Oregon Lottery sales help fund public education, parks, economic development and watershed projects. Lane County school districts received more than $24 million in Oregon Lottery dollars in the 2013-15 biennium.
The Oregon Lottery reminds players to always sign the back of their Lottery tickets, regardless of the game. In the event of winning a jackpot, they should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Prize winners of more than $50,000 are advised to contact the Lottery office and schedule an appointment to claim their prize.
