KTVZ-TV

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Bend Police Department is continuing its investigation into last Thursday's shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School as students returned to classrooms Wednesday morning. Dozens of officers were stationed at public schools across the city to welcome returning students and staff.

As part of the response, police are collaborating with Bend-La Pine Schools to assess district safety protocols and campus operations. Detectives leading the investigation have executed search warrants at the shooting suspect's home, examining electronic devices and social media accounts across multiple platforms.

Officers were positioned at every public school in Bend on Wednesday morning and are scheduled to return for student dismissal at the end of the day. The department expects to maintain a heightened officer presence in and around school campuses over the coming days and weeks to support students and staff.

Investigators are also analyzing details surrounding the firearm used during the shooting. Department officials noted that additional specifics about the case remain confidential to protect the integrity of the ongoing probe.

The Bend Police Department has confirmed that the firearm used in Thursday's shooting was purchased legally, but did not share further information.

Police officers will be stationed at Bend public schools for dismissal Wednesday afternoon, with an increased police presence planned across district campuses over the coming days and weeks.
