Jefferson Co. Deputy Arrested on DUII Charge

An off-duty Jefferson County sheriff?s deputy, driving a private car on his day off, was arrested north of Terrebonne early Wednesday on a drunk driving charge, Sheriff Jim Adkins said.
David Michael Carnes, 26, of Terrebonne, has been with the sheriff?s office since 2008, Adkins said. Deschutes County Sheriff Larry Blanton said Carnes was arrested near the Crooked River Bridge.
Adkins said Carnes had a blood-alcohol level of .17 at the time of his arrest, shortly after midnight, more than twice Oregon?s legal limit of .08.
Carnes was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend for processing on the DUII charge, then released to a responsible third party, pending a May 9 court date, the sheriff said.
?I have placed the deputy on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation,? Adkins said in a news release.
?In my opinion, this kind of conduct is unacceptable, and I expect deputies to use good judgment and act responsibly, both on and off duty,? the sheriff said.
Adkins said any further information would have to come from Oregon State Police and/or the Deschutes County District Attorney?s Office.
