Alleged Bray rape victim’s friend testifies

The first week of testimony wrapped up Friday in the trial of Thomas Bray, an ex-COCC anatomy teacher accused of raping two women in February of 2011.

The 38-year-old faces 11 felony and misdemeanor counts of sex abuse, and could get years in prison if convicted. At the request of the accusers, no cameras are allowed in the courtroom.

A Bend woman who says her friend called to tell her she had been raped testified Friday afternoon.

“She said that he held her down and forced her to have sex with him,” the woman testified.

The woman told the judge her friend was very frantic, crying and in a state of shock.

The defense asked her when she got that call, and she could only tell them it was in the morning on February 26th, 2011. Bray’s attorney says that proves hours had passed since the alleged assault, giving the accuser plenty of time to make up a story about being raped.

Later, Bray’s lawyer, Stephen Houze, added the accuser had searched on the Internet to find out if Bray really was a doctor, contending the woman was after one thing: “She’s got her eyes fixed on the dollars,” referring to Bray’s money.

A doctor at St. Charles Medical Center-Bend also testified Friday afternoon. She told Deschutes County Circuit Judge Stephen Tiktin (hearing the trial without a jury) that she remembered this particular accuser because of her injuries.

“What struck me was, most sexual assault victims don’t exhibit signs of physical injury. You could see she (the alleged victim) had black eyes,” the doctor testified.

The woman told the judge, “These are bruises you could see as soon as she walked in the room.”

The trial picks back up Monday morning at 9 a.m.
