Central Oregon residents invited to comment on proposed wildfire safety code

Redmond Fire

Bend, Ore. (KTVZ) --- Redmond Fire & Rescue is moving to adopt a new Wildland-Urban Interface Code to help protect homes, neighborhoods and natural areas in Central Oregon as wildfire risks continue to rise.

The proposed code aims to increase safety in fire-prone locations across the community. It focuses on strengthening standards for defensible space, improving emergency vehicle access and enhancing protection for homes vulnerable to wildfires.

The department has opened a public comment period to gather feedback from community members on the proposed standards. Residents can submit input by emailing admin@rdmfire-or.gov or by attending upcoming department meetings.

Redmond Fire & Rescue encouraged community involvement during the decision-making process. “We want to hear from you!” the department said in an announcement.
