Family Access Network gets grant

KTVZ

The Family Access Network is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from the Pacific Power Foundation to help support a FAN advocate.

“We are very appreciative of the grant funds from the Pacific Power Foundation. This grant will help support our most needy children at Jewell Elementary School, those struggling to make it from day to day. The $1,000 grant will go a long way in our efforts to assist disadvantaged children and family members each year,” said Kristi Miller, FAN Foundation chairwoman.

FAN’s mission is to improve lives by ensuring all children in Deschutes County have access to basic-need services, which aligns well with the Pacific Power Foundation’s mission to provide services through charitable investments to support growth and vitality in the communities served by Pacific Power.

“Pacific Power Foundation is committed to serving our communities. We are pleased to support the Family Access Network in its efforts to connect local children and families to their most essential needs,” said Angela Jacobson, Pacific Power regional community manager.

FAN began in January 1993, and currently employs 26 advocates in 45 public schools sites (K-12 and early childhood). FAN strives to improve lives by ensuring all children in Deschutes County have access to basic-need services.

FAN is unique to Deschutes County, using advocates to efficiently reach and connect disadvantaged children and families with basic needs. During the 2011-12 school year, FAN served more than 9,200 children and their family members, connecting them with food, shelter, health care and other critical services.

The Pacific Power Foundation is part of the PacifiCorp Foundation, one of the largest utility endowed foundations in the United States. The foundation was created in 1988 by PacifiCorp, an electric utility serving 1.7 million customers in six Western states as Pacific Power (Oregon, Washington and California) and Rocky Mountain Power (Utah, Wyoming and Idaho). The foundation’s mission, through charitable investments, is to support the growth and vitality of the communities served by Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power.
