BMPRD seeks adaptive swim program volunteers

KTVZ

Bend Park & Recreation District is seeking adult volunteers to come make a splash with adaptive swimming programs for school age children with disabilities.

Adaptive aquatics programs focus on teaching swimming skills and water safety to elementary and middle school age students. Offered at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center throughout the school year, classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15 am and 10:30 to 11:15 am.

Volunteers are in the pool with the children to help reinforce lessons and serve as buddies and mentors. Volunteers do not need to be expert swimmers, but do need to be comfortable with helping in the pool and at least 18 years of age.

Training and on-going staff support is provided. As with all Bend Park & Recreation volunteers, a volunteer application and criminal history background check are required.

For more information, contact Kim Johnson, BPRD Volunteer Coordinator at (541) 706-6127 or kim@bendparksandrec.org.
