Spear announces candidacy for judgeship

Thomas “T.J.” Spear, on Tuesday announced his candidacy for Judge of the Deschutes County Circuit Court (11th Judicial District), Position 5, currently held by retiring Judge Barbara Haslinger.

Here’s the rest of his announcement:

Thomas Spear is an experienced attorney who believes every person deserves fairness and respect in the judicial system. He brings a wealth of experience to the bench, having served seven years as a Judge pro tem for the Deschutes County Circuit Court. He has a proven record of integrity and is highly respected in the community.

In addition to his experience as a pro tem judge, Thomas Spear was also a Deputy District Attorney for over 12 years, representing the people of the State of Oregon. He fought to hold offenders accountable and sought justice for crime victims. He also worked with local law enforcement officers by teaching educational courses on criminal procedure and new case law.

Thomas Spear served our country as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy aboard a fast attack submarine. He has also served the community by volunteering as coach of the mock trial team for Summit High School in Bend, serving as president of the Deschutes County Bar Association, and is a former member of the Oregon State Bar House of Delegates.

Mr. Spear lives in Bend with his wife, their three children, and their dog, Calvin.
The Committee to Elect Spear for Judge is holding a campaign kick-off event Thursday, February 20th starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Rambler Room at McMenamins St. Francis School
