Prineville woman unhurt as car topples pole

A Prineville woman was unhurt when her car left Lamonta Road northwest of Prineville and struck a power pole Tuesday afternoon, causing the pole to fall onto the road and knocking out power to several homes, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the crash around 3:50 p.m. on Lamonta Road near Stahancyk Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. James Savage.

Arriving deputies found the driver, Doris Elaine Spencer, 67, still in the 2010 Honda Civic, which was pinned against a fence and close to several downed, live power lines, Savage said.

Deputies and medics were able to remove Spencer from the car and learned she was uninjured, he added.

An investigation found Spencer was heading north when her tires drifted off the road and onto the gravel shoulder. Savage said she tried to steer back into the lane of travel, but over-corrected and began to fishtail, hitting and knocking down a Pacific Power pole.

The pole fell across the road, shutting it for nearly an hour. Repairs to restore power in the area took nearly two hours.

No citations were issued, Savage said.
