Prineville man dies in Hwy. 97 pickup-semi crash

A 21-year-old Prineville man was killed and his 20-year-old passenger injured Saturday when their truck crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the side of a semi-truck on Highway 97 north of Madras, Oregon State Police reported.

Jordan Alan Dunaway was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, reported around noon about 15 miles north of Madras, troopers said.

The pickup with two occupants was heading south on the highway near milepost 76 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the northbound lane and struck the side of a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer, OSP reported.

The pickup came to rest off the highway on its wheels.

The passenger, Makinsi Lorraine Gregory, also of Prineville, was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Madras with what OSP reported were non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver, Manual Nunez, 53, of California, was not transported for any reported injury, troopers said.

OSP said its troopers from Bend and Madras offices are investigating the crash.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Fire Rescue and ODOT.
