Bend Scouts place U.S. flags on veterans’ graves

Central Oregon Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Saturday in placing flags at more than 1,000 grave sites before a planned Memorial Day ceremony.
Saturday’s event takes place before Memorial Day at the Deschutes Memorial Chapel and Gardens each year.
A Vietnam vet says it’s the Boy Scouts’ way of paying homage to those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice and were killed in the line of duty, defending our nation and its freedom.
“It’s our duty, myself as a Vietnam veteran,” Bend VFW Chairman Bob Cusick said, “to make sure that all our veterans, especially those from Vietnam, are not forgotten for what they did overseas.”
You can attend Central Oregon’ largest Memorial Day ceremony at the Gardens at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day.
