A 39-year-old Bend woman was killed and two men were injured Thursday night when the woman’s SUV crossed the center line of Highway 20W east of Sisters and struck a pickup nearly head-on, Oregon State Police said Friday.

Around 8 p.m., a 1992 Ford Explorer driven by April Lois Jegglie was heading east on the highway near Fryrear Road when it crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with a westbound 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup occupied by two men, troopers said.

After impact, the Ford Explorer continued for a brief distance and then left the highway, rolling over.

Jegglie, who was driving with a suspended license, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The pickup’s driver, Cody Herburger, 27, of Sisters, was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend with what troopers said were non-life-threatening injuries.

His passenger, Nickalaus Newport, 29, also of Sisters, sustained minor injuries but refused ambulance transport, troopers said. He was taken to the hospital later by a family member for an examination.

Both men were treated at the hospital and released, a spokeswoman said.

OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office and OSP collision reconstructionists are continuing the investigation. Seat belt use also is pending confirmation, troopers said.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Sisters – Camp Sherman Fire District, Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District, Bend Fire Department, and ODOT.

The crash blocked, then partially closed the highway for about two hours, with a detour in place.

Cloverdale Fire officials said the two men were trapped, and they and Sisters crews used their extrication tools, taking nearly a half-hour go get the other driver out.

Eastbound traffic was being detoured north onto Fryrear Road around the crash scene.
