Sisters Rodeo


Buckin’ broncs and barrel racers! Every year, the best cowboys andcowgirls in rodeo come to Sisters for the fat purses of “The BiggestLittle Show in the World!” Sisters Rodeo has been entertaining rodeo fans for 73 years with worldchampion cowboys and cowgirls competing in all the events of theProfessional Rodeo Cowboys Association. There are five great shows plus anXtreme Bulls performance at the Sisters Rodeo grounds, three milessoutheast of Sisters on Highway 20.Each performance has a grand entry, team bronc riding, tie-down roping,bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, team roping, bullriding and barrel racing. The Sisters Rodeo Parade is in downtown Sisters on Cascade Avenue,Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. The popular parade packs the town withfloats, bands, antique cars, exotic animals and equestrian teams alongwith visiting rodeo queens and courts. Sisters Rodeo Queen Whitney Richey will reigned over the 2013 rodeo. QueenRichey is from Springfield, Oregon, and is a student at the University ofOregon. The 2013 specialty act was Percheron Thunder, a Roman Riding act withJason Goodman straddled on two of six black draft horses, reining them infeats of precision and athleticism. The act has been the premier act atNational Finals Rodeo, the Calgary Stampede and other major rodeos acrossthe nation.The Kiwanis Buckaroo Breakfast is at Sunday at the rodeo grounds from 7 to11 a.m. There is Cowboy Church at 9 a.m., also at the rodeo grounds. Sisters has the highest purse in the nation the second weekend in June,bringing the best in the sport to compete and entertain the crowds.
