Bend makes another ‘where to retire’ list

Bend has been selected yet again as a top retirement destination — this time, for its lure of great fishing, by the magazine Where to Retire, geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions.

Bend is one of eight selections profiled in a feature titled “8 Fishing Cities: Great Lures Across the U.S.” in the July/August issue, available nationwide on June 17, 2014.

Where to Retire Editor Annette Fuller said these eight cities, including Bend, appeal to retirees who dream of spending their days out on the water.

“Our eight locales offer a full range of fishing, from fly, ice, freshwater and saltwater,” she said. “Typically, cities with good fishing have other appealing outdoor adventures — hiking and biking trails, national parks, and festivals, to name a few — all set against the natural beauty of the area.”

Each year, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate. They bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns.

Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.

Where to Retire magazine, launched in 1992 with the goal of helping its readers find the ideal place to retire, is published six times a year. The magazine covers the best retirement regions, towns and master-planned communities, and has a national circulation of 200,000.

Fishing cities featured: Morehead City, NC; Florida’s Upper Keys; Hot Springs, AR; Natchitoches, LA; Door County, WI; Bozeman, MT; Bend, OR; Redding, CA.
