Redmond ice skating rink closes for season
The weather has made for a short season for most winter activities and this includes ice skating. The Redmond Area Parks and Recreation District and the City of Redmond have closed the ice rink for the season. The continued warm weather has made it difficult to maintain ice and visitation rates have decreased.
“The ice rink was festive and active over the holiday season, which is one of the main goals of the facility,” comments Annie McVay, Parks Division Manager, “It’s a little disappointing to close early, but we’ve seen residents out in force enjoying the temperatures and more spring and summer type activities in the parks.”
The City of Redmond and the RAPRD partner to operate and maintain the portable ice skating rink and provide an economical and fun activity for families to enjoy during the winter season. The agencies strive to open the rink every year the Friday before Thanksgiving and close in early March but this is weather dependent.
