Driver injured in crash at NE Bend intersection

KTVZ

A 59-year-old Corvallis man was taken to St. Charles Bend after he apparently ran a stop sign and his car collided with an SUV at a northeast Bend intersection, police said.

Police officers and fire medics responded around 7:10 a.m. to the crash at Northeast Neff and Shepard roads, said Lt. Jason Maniscalco.

Officers arrived to find a silver 2002 Volkswagen Jetta heavily damaged and blocking the eastbound lane of Neff Road, he said. A silver 2012 Honda Pilot had left the road after the crash and also sustained heavy damage.

Maniscalco said officers determined that Kerry Schoning had been heading south on Shepard Road and entered the intersection without stopping at a stop sign, colliding with the SUV heading west on Neff and driven by Shane Lo Greco, 35, of Bend.

Schoning was taken to the Bend hospital, where he was treated and released. No other injuries were reported.

Maniscalco said no citations were issued at the scene, but the investigation was continuing. Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to have been factors in the crash, he added.

The crash partially blocked the intersection for about an hour, for the investigation and until both vehicles were towed from the scene.
