Prineville man accused of assaulting infant daughter

A 3-month-old girl brought to the Pioneer Memorial Hospital ER with serious, suspicious injuries triggered an investigation that led to the arrest of the baby’s 20-year-old father, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said Monday night.

Sgt. Travis Jurgens said deputies responded to the hospital around 4:45 p.m. Friday. The child was taken to St. Charles Bend later that night for further treatment, Jurgens said, adding that while the injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening.

As a result of an investigation, the baby’s father, Nicholas Brown of Prineville, was taken into custody Saturday without incident.

Brown was lodged at the county jail on charges of first- and third-degree assault. He remained held late Monday on $115,000 bail.

Jurgens said the sheriff’s office was assisted in the investigation by the state Department of Human Services – Child Welfare and Prineville Police Department.
