Injured hiker rescued near Green Lakes

KTVZ

A Eugene woman injured while hiking Sunday in the Green Lakes area west of Bend prompted a rescue effort by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, officials said.

County 911 dispatchers got a call around 8:35 a.m. from another hiker reporting he had located Nancy Allender, 55, about four miles from the Green Lakes Trailhead, said sheriff’s Deputy Russell Stanage, assistant SAR coordinator.

Allender had suffered a non-life-threatening injury and could not walk out on her own, the caller said.

Two Search and Rescue teams assembled and headed for the woman’s location, bringing medical supplies and a wheeled litter. Once on scene, they stabilized her and transported her by wheeled litter to the trailhead.

From there, Allender was taken by her friend to Eugene for further medical attention, Stanage said.
