Small brushfire stopped near Sunriver

KTVZ

Crews rushed to encircle and put out a small brushfire Wednesday afternoon southeast of Sunriver and said they were getting it knocked down quickly.

Sunriver police and fire crews were on the scene, joined by Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies, with U.S. Forest Service assistance, officers said.

The fire was reported around 2:20 p.m. as a single tree on fire near South Century Drive, just east of the railroad tracks and near the resort community’s water tanks.

It was spreading north in brush and light grass. Initial estimates were of it being 1/10 of an acre and later, a quarter-acre as it was being knocked down.

A water tender from the La Pine Rural Fire District also was called in. There was no word of any roads closed, structures threatened or injuries.

The fire was reported 100 percent lined before 3:30 p.m. and mop-up was underway.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, with a U.S. Forest Service investigator on scene, police said.
