Prineville receives budget award for 10th year

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced recently that the City of Prineville has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.

The award reflects the commitment of the city’s Finance Department to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

Receiving this award once is a big deal. Receiving it ten years in a row is a phenomenal achievement.

“I am honored to receive this award for the 10th year, and I’m very proud of the hard work that the Finance department and others put forth during this process. Every year we work very hard to improve our budget document to be a better communication device. We utilize it as an operations guide, financial plan and policy document,” said Liz Schuette, Finance Director.

Prineville’s City Manager, Steve Forrester, is clearly proud of his team as he talks about the hard work that goes into creating, managing, and adopting the City’s budget each year. After all, making sure that a little over $30M dollars of taxpayers’ money is used correctly puts a little stress on a city manager.

“We continually remind ourselves that our community is our customer, and our citizen’s tax dollar is entrusted to us to provide city services effectively and responsibly,” said Forrester recently.

The City of Prineville prides itself on being fiscally conservative, transparent, and responsive to the needs of city residents. Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the GFOA ten years in a row tells you something about the operation of the city.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of 18,300 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-led government officials and other finance practitioners. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
