How are early Central Oregon cannabis edibles sales?

The recreational sale of pot edibles has been legal for nearly a week now. NewsChannel 21’s Dani Fried visited a Bend marijuana shop to see how sales have been going, and get a guided tour of its cannabis edibles and extracts.

Officials at Oregrown said their sales have gone up significantly since edibles became legal last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Bloom Well Dispensary in Bend said their sales have gone up significantly, with a shift in their sales from the marijuana flower to edibles.

Aviv Hadar, co-owner, of Oregrown in Bend, partners with many local companies to sell the products that have now been legalized.

“Personally, we’re really happy for a lot of our friends that own the edible, topical and extract companies,” Hadar said. “We’re really stoked we’re doing well.”

Oregrown’s owners said they expected sales to jump 5-10 percent after the legalization, but to their surprise, it’s actually risen 10 to 20 percent.

Along with Oregrown, Bloom Well dispensary said its sales have increased significantly, with a shift in sales moving from the marijuana flower to the marijuana edibles.

But along with the new way to consume edibles comes the dangers of consuming them. When asked about safe consumption, the shops we spoke to had similar advice.

“So with edibles, we like to say start low, go slow,” Hadar said. ” I think Colorado nailed that slogan, so the 15-milligram limit is pretty good. Keeping things locked up, keeping it away from anywhere your kids could access it. Just like a gun, beer, bottle of vodka, things have to start at home with parenting.”

The sellers of these new cannabis products urge you to make sure to educate before you recreate.
