Small brush fire stopped near NE Bend apartments

KTVZ

A small brush fire broke out behind apartments in northeast Bend Wednesday morning, but bystanders with fire extinguishers had it mostly out before firefighters arrived, officials said.

The fire was reported around 8 a.m. behind the Sage Springs Apartments at Boyd Acres Road and Warner Place.

Passers-by spotted and called in the fire to Deschutes County dispatchers, who received several calls reporting it.

Bend Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service crews responded to the calls, and found others in the area had knocked it down with fire extinguishers, including workers at the nearby Jeld-Wen plant across the street.

There was no immediate word on a cause, but fire officials said an investigator would be looking into it.

Another small brush fire was stopped fast Tuesday night near Southeast 27th Street and Stevens Road, having burned about 1/10 of an acre, officials said.

Temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees for the next couple of days, heightening the already-high fire danger.
