Modular home community under construction in Redmond offers solution to housing crisis

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A new housing development in Redmond is offering 16 modular rental units to help address the area's housing crisis. The Canyon Cottages community, created by Timbergon, will feature rentals priced at approximately $1,800 per month, which includes all utilities.

Vicente González is the founder of Timbergon, says modular homes go up quickly, allowing the community to be constructed nearly twice as fast as a standard residential development.

“By starting construction in tandem with permitting and groundwork,” González said. “So by the time we're done with foundations, we have the units ready to drop them in, like Legos. And the project is pretty much 90% through at that point.”

Each apartment unit comes equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, washer and dryer. Every rental also includes a designated parking space for the tenant.

The development is pet-friendly for residents with animals. Additionally, tenants have the option to rent extra storage units directly on site.

The 16 units at Canyon Cottages are scheduled to open on November 12.
