Jury selection ends 1st day for ex-politician accused of killing Las Vegas investigative reporter

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The murder trial of a Las Vegas-area politician accused of killing an investigative reporter who wrote articles critical of him has begun, with jury selection set to resume for a second day. Questioning of prospective jurors began Monday after the judge rejected defendant Robert Telles’ last request to dismiss the case. Telles, a Democrat, once was the elected county public administrator of estates. He has pleaded not guilty in the 2022 stabbing death of reporter Jeff German. Prosecutors say Telles was motivated by articles German wrote about him and that Telles’ DNA was found under German’s fingernails after he died. Telles’ defense lawyer says Telles intends to testify in his defense.
