Man charged in stabbing of mother at NE Bend home

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A 30-year-old Bend man was taken into custody early Monday evening, accused of stabbing his 63-year-old mother several times at their northeast Bend home, leaving her seriously wounded, police said.

Officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. to the reported stabbing at a home in the 1600 block of Northeast Meerkat Avenue, Lt. Bob Jones said.

Arriving officers found the woman with stab wounds to her back and side, Jones said. They determined her son, who allegedly committed the crime, was still in the home the mother and son shared. Officers found him and took him into custody without incident.

The woman was taken to St. Charles Bend with life-threatening injuries. Her son was taken to St. Charles Health System for an evaluation. Jones said he faces charges of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
