SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A report of a possible hostage situation brought Marion County sheriff's deputies to a southeast Salem home Monday afternoon, and an officer-involved shooting led to "multiple fatalities," including the suspect, deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched the the report of a possible hostage situation around 12:30 p.m. to the 200 block of Juneva Place SE, deputies said.

Once deputies arrived, a trained hostage negotiator called the suspect, and "as the incident unfolded, shots were fired," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

"Ultimately, there were multiple fatalities during this incident, including that of the suspect," the agency said. "No deputies were injured. At this time, there is no reason to believe there is any outstanding danger to the community."

As is standard protocol, Oregon State Police were called to the scene to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Any deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave.
