BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A suspected drunk driver without a valid license drove away from a Bend Police traffic stop Sunday evening and hit 75 mph while weaving down the Bend Parkway before he got off, stopped and gave a false name when arrested, police said.

The 29-year-old man’s breath test returned a .26 blood-alcohol content, more than three times Oregon’s legal limit of .08, police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.

Police, suspecting DUII, initiated a traffic stop around 6:20 p.m. on the man’s Subaru Forester, Miller said.

But during the stop, the man drove away on Southeast Division Street, then headed onto Reed Market Road and south on the parkway.

Officers pursued the man, who reached a top speed of 75 mph and was unable to maintain his lane, Miller said.

The driver left the parkway at Ponderosa Street and drove through Romaine Village before stopping and getting out. Miller said the man initially gave a false name.

He was taken to the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude police, failure to carry a driver’s license, giving false information to police and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
