REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Redmond woman who allegedly tried to run into and threatened to assault others at the Shepherd’s House Redmond Center early Tuesday barricaded herself in her car, prompting call-out of a police negotiator and armored rescue vehicle and the use of spike strips and pepper spray to take her into custody.

Redmond Police responded to the Shepherd’s House Redmond shelter on South Highway 97 around 6:10 a.m. to investigate a dispute, Lieutenant Eric Beckwith said.

They arrived to learn a 49-year-old woman tried to strike other individuals on scene with a car and threatened to arm herself with a hammer to assault others, he said.

The woman tried to drive away as officers sought to contact her. Beckwith said “STOP sticks” were successfully deployed, and the car was contained to the parking lot, where it was blocked in by law enforcement.

The woman barricaded herself in the car and refused officer commands to surrender, Beckwith said.

Negotiators with the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT)  were called in, with their armored rescue vehicle, but also were unable to gain the woman’s compliance. After more negotiations, the woman was taken into custody without further incident, the lieutenant said.

She was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of second-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree assault, reckless driving, attempt to elude police and resisting arrest.

Beckwith said Redmond Police want to thank Redmond Fire and Rescue for their assistance.
