Watch Live: Crook County School Board expected to decide Superintendent Melissa Skinner’s fate tonight
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Tensions are running high in Prineville Monday evening as the Crook County School Board holds a special meeting about the employment status of embattled Superintendent Melissa Skinner.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Barnes Butte Elementary, held there to accommodate another large crowd.
You can watch the meeting live at this Zoom Link. NewsChannel 21's Tracee Tuesday is on hand to watch what happens and will have a report on First at Ten on Fox and Eleven on NBC.
The agenda for the special meeting indicated action will be taken on “the status of the superintendent’s employment,” as well on complaints filed against Skinner and a board member. “Because this is a special board meeting, there will not be public comment,” it says.
A petition with more than 1,000 signatures, supported by the teachers’ and classified staff’s unions, accuses Skinner of nepotism and poor management, including the controversial hiring of a former board member as the district’s transportation supervisor.
Last month, more than 100 students walked out in protest after Skinner tried to reassign Athletic Director Rob Bonner, a move the board later rejected.
Skinner issued a statement but otherwise was unavailable for comment in recent weeks, having been out of town due to a family emergency.
Board member Scott Cooper urged calm ahead of Monday's meeting, saying, “Both sides want what’s best for the district, and we’ll have a clear plan after tonight.”
