Fire destroys several vehicles in backyard of SW Redmond home, spreads to attic before crews can stop it
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A fire destroyed several vehicles in a southwest Redmond backyard and spread to a home’s attic Saturday afternoon, but firefighters who attacked the blaze prevented more serious damage to the residence, an official said.
Redmond Fire and Rescue responded around 12:35 p.m. to the reported structure fire in the 1600 block of Southwest 24th Street, Fire Marshal and Public Information Officer Tom Mooney said.
The fire put up a large column of black smoke visible across the area, prompted crews to call in more resources to assist, Mooney said.
Crews arrived to find the backyard containing numerous vehicles engulfed in the blaze, with flames moving quickly toward the home.
Mooney said fire crews worked quickly to stop the fire’s spread and make sure everyone had safely evacuated the home.
While the fire didn't get into the home's interior, it burned up the side of the house and into the attic through vents, Mooney said.
No injuries were reported, the fire official said, adding that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Redmond Fire & Rescue was assisted by Bend Fire & Rescue, the Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District and Redmond Police Department.
