Viewer video captures cougar family in Warm Springs

Broadcast report on orginal warning from JCSO.

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) — A new viewer video shows what appears to be a cougar and possibly two cubs along a rural road in Warm Springs. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office issued a public caution following another reported cougar sighting in Madras' City Park.

While driving in Warm Springs, Brad Strong recorded what appears to be a cougar and two cubs, with one cub visible on the left-hand side of the road and the other hiding on the right-hand side. The exclusive viewer video was captured on April 27 at approximately 10 p.m.

The Madras sighting was reported to have occurred in City Park, located near Oak and 10th streets. The report indicated the animal came out of a field and into the park.

The sighting in Madras remains unconfirmed, as authorities have not located any tracks at the scene. Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife were notified of the cougar sighting report in Madras.

Officials advise the public to exercise caution if they encounter a cougar. If a cougar is seen, people should not run, as this action triggers the animal's chase instinct. Instead, individuals should stop, stand tall and make themselves look big.
