La Pine City Council hosts Deschutes County commissioners, but mayor’s recent election defeat made for twist

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Deschutes County commissioners paid a visit to La Pine City Hall on Wednesday evening for one of their periodic joint meetings with the City Council, to talk about a variety of mutual issues.

First on the agenda and upper-most in many residents’ minds was to keep striving for solutions to the homelessness issues on public lands, in the wake of this summer’s Darlene 3 Fire.

However, last week's La Pine voter defeat of Mayor Daniel Richer by challenger Jeannine Earls made for a twist on that lead-off topic. Updated Deschutes County election results Wednesday showed Richer, who moved to table the homeless topic, lost to Earls, 47-34%.

Other topics up for discussion ranged from county road conditions during the winter to working together on solid waste dumping related to code enforcement and city-county collaboration on community cleanup events.
