BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a sixth-grade girl brought a gun to her Idaho middle school, shot two students and a custodian and then was disarmed by a teacher.

Officials said at a news conference Thursday that the three victims are expected to survive their injuries.

Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson says the girl pulled a handgun from her backpack and fired multiple rounds inside and outside Rigby Middle School.

A female teacher disarmed the girl and held her until law enforcement arrived and took her into custody.

All three victims were shot in their extremities.

Authorities say they’re investigating the motive for the attack and where the girl got the gun.

      1. Remember how I said the NRA had an optics problem? It’s comments like these that say, “Your school with your kids got shot up, and I just don’t care.”

        1. A whole lot of us were already taught and safe enough to have our own guns by that age and were hunting alone. Parents could be guilty of not teaching their kids maybe.

          1. I grew up in a family of hunters and nobody went out alone or even considered taking a gun to school. My above response was to the stupid remark comparing this to teen drivers.

          2. Same here. My brothers and I went thru safety gun classes and our father was a hunter. We had guns everywhere and never thought of picking on up to take it to school or to show off.

        1. She was 11. Middle school. Boys shoot and kill. This girl wounded the victims who are expected to live
Don’t paint everyone with the same brush h, please.
Parents with guns are responsible for teaching children that these weapons are only for hunting.
My Gen X cohorts learned and did not shoot up schools. We respect firearms because they are for killing.
It’s necessary to teach they use and dangers. Clearly.

            1. Take a look at the Oregon hunting regulations, handguns are listed as one of the legal hunting weapons, so obviously it is recognized by the State as such.

      2. Uncle Tifa thinks it sounds like you want more stringent enforcement of teen driving? What did you have in mind? Perhaps a European-like system where children learn to drink before they are licensed to drive? Uncle Tifa think you socialist.

      3. She was barely a teen. Middle school. Boys shoot and kill. This girl wounded the victims who are expected to live

  1. WE don’t have a gun problem! anyone can get one, no problem! another hero teacher, bet the conservatives won’t give her any props!

    1. Why would not everyone be saying great job and thanks to the teacher? Sounds like you might be too hung up on class and racial division. Why would any thinking person be trying to divide this for political purposes?

    1. In the news the other day, apparently they are teaching them that history doesn’t matter and there is no racism in our society. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/may/06/idaho-critical-race-theory Idaho is 91% white, 21% mormon and 19% evangelical, meaning close to half the state belongs to religious organizations with past racist ideology (mormoms) and embedded white patriarchy (both). As a state it has a racist past and present, https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/show/idaho-matters/2020-12-28/best-of-idaho-matters-in-2020-why-idahos-racist-history-matters So there is that, too.

      1. To be fair, Oregon is one of the only states that sees fit to omit the Civil Rights Movement from their curriculum. We have a history rich in racism.

      2. well as long as you keep brining it up here, your the hero. there is a racism problem in the United States. on all fronts. all races don’t like each other to some extent, and for the most part cohabitate peacefully. yes sometimes people get their feeling hurt, but life goes on. Remember they are just words.

      3. so you think they should be teaching children they are victims of white supremacy and the laws are in place to keep them down? do you honestly think white supremacy exists on a grand scale in our country? yes there are small cells of idiots in all races. do you also subscribe to white privilege?

  2. Poor Idaho is getting some ugly press right now. Criminals like Bundy running for gov and little girls shooting their classmates. Sad when even the quiet little states start feeling these horrible trends…
