Redmond Police Department presents annual report to city councilors

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- At the Redmond City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, there was a presentation from the Redmond Police Department which referenced where they are right now and where they're headed in the future.

Redmond Police Captain Jesse Petersen said: “We believe in excellence. That's always doing our best with the idea of always striving to improve, and every day we take our core values of professionalism, excellence and teamwork, and we guide that in everything that we do.”

Captain Petersen also talked about what happens when someone gets pulled over.

“When I pull you over, I'm going to try to get you to stop in a safe location, both safe for you and me, because we don't want somebody to end up hitting your vehicle or getting one of our officers hurt. We'll advise you, the reason for the stop. And then you have an opportunity to explain why you may have committed that violation or what's going on.

"And then we will ask you for your license, your insurance, your registration. And then we're going to check with our dispatch to make sure that you're allowed to drive legally and lawfully, that you have the correct insurance so you can be on the street. And then you'll either be given a written warning, a citation or a verbal warning, because we're out there not only for enforcement, but it's an educational opportunity.  We want to change that behavior, to make it, where it's safe for people to be out there to drive and for pedestrians to be on the roadway, as well as bikes and other vehicles,” said Captain Petersen.

The Redmond Police Department is hosting “National Night Out” on Tuesday, August 6th at Centennial Park, where the community will be able to get up close and personal with the Redmond Police Department.
