There’s Good News: Think Wild celebrates Cooper’s hawk recovery and raccoon monitoring

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Good News from Think Wild Central Oregon!

A juvenile Cooper’s hawk is back in the wild after nearly four weeks of rehabilitation.

The hawk was rescued in west Bend in late July after striking a window. After recovering from its injuries, the bird successfully passed flight and live-prey testing and was cleared for release.

Think Wild reminds residents there are simple ways to help prevent window strikes. Using curtains, screens or window treatments can make windows safer for birds. Turning off lights and closing blinds when it’s dark outside can also help reduce the risk.

Meanwhile, there’s never a dull moment in Think Wild’s raccoon enclosure.

The organization is thanking donors who helped purchase cameras for the raccoons this spring. Staff say the cameras are medically necessary, allowing them to monitor the animals and keep a close eye on their health around the clock.

Think Wild says community support helps provide the care Central Oregon’s injured and orphaned wildlife need to recover and return to the wild.
