SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) – Firefighters from Cloverdale and Redmond responded to a vehicle fire early Sunday on Highway 126 on the east grade of the Dry Canyon and found an area resident had started pouring water on it from a portable water tank and pump.

Crews from the Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District and Redmond Fire & Rescue responded around 5:45 a.m. to the vehicle fire near milepost 101, about nine miles east of Sisters, Cloverdale Fire Chief Thad Olsen said in a news release. He noted that the fire broke out in an area between the two fire districts’ borders.

Cloverdale crews arrived to find a nearby resident had started putting water on the fire from a trailer-mounted water tank and pump he pulled to the scene with his tractor.

Olsen said firefighters were able to finish extinguishing the fire, preventing any spread to surrounding trees and brush.

The fire resulted in an estimated $15,000 in damages, the fire chief said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
