Ski-jumping competition — on Pilot Butte? You betcha!
In a special Olympic Zone segment, NewsChannel 21's Lee Anderson talks with an organizer and a competitor in the 1965 National Junior Ski Championships, which were hosted in Bend, on Mt. Bachelor and… the ski-jumping competition on Pilot Butte!?
Now that is a great story! This is the best story I have ever seen from KTVZ.
I agree its nice to remember those distant years, back when mt bachelor still advertised an operating lift network as part of every ticket purchase
Great story! I think its awesome that there was a ski jump competition on Pilot Butte!
Ah, the good ol’ days, before global warming, when Bend was a ski town and we had winter…
It’s on man-made snow!
hahaha! best one i heard all day! yeah, global warming ruined the artificial snow.
That is just awesome! What a great piece of local history, thank you! I hope they share with the Deschutes History Museum
Any chance KTVZ could do more of these “Moments in History” of Bend? When I was working for the City of Bend years ago, I stumbled across old pictures of when the town, back then, half of it was burned down. The only thing that saved the rest of it was the Deshutes River. Anyway, the Pilot Butte piece was nice to see!
Thanks. Make suggestions any time, newsroom’s at stories@ktvz.com. We don’t do as many weekly features, what’s known as “franchise pieces” (as in newsroom talk: “OK so what are we gonna do THIS week?”) as the other folks, but anything’s possible…
