City of Bend street operations crews respond to snowy day with sanders
It's winter time, and we have seen little snowfall in Bend this year, compared to prior years. With the snowfall Saturday, we asked the city about its procedures for clearing the snow. Charles Swann, the city of Bend's Street Operations Division manager, said clearing the snow is a sanding operation as of now. Sanding is crushed rock that is placed on the road. Sanding operations occur when the snow accumulation is anything less than two inches. The on-call crew used six large sander vehicles to help clear the snow in Bend Saturday.
