Cooler pattern this weekend, snow possible Sunday

The first weekend of February will be defined by a much cooler weather scenario along with some snow.  Expect partly cloudy skies today with a stray snow shower late in the afternoon and highs in the low 40s. The wind will be light and variable.

Tonight, the pattern begins to change as an area of low pressure moves inland near Central California.  This low will be able to push a decent amount of cloud cover our way as the night moves along. This is setting us up for some rain and snow on Sunday.

The shield of showers will cross the border from Northern California to Oregon in the morning as snow.  As the day moves along the snow migrates north. By the middle of the afternoon southern Deschutes County is expected to see snowflakes falling. This line of showers will push north but mingle with some “above freezing” temperatures north of Lava Butte and I expect to see a mix of rain and snow into Sunday evening.

Accumulations of snow will be light, only piling up to around 1 – 3” south of Bend. Much more robust snow is likely to impact Klamath and Lake Counties Sunday, so if you plan on traveling south, prepare for some snow.

A wintry mix of rain and snow will linger into Monday.

Stay safe.
