Dry pattern continues, rainy pattern late in the week

The dry pattern is expected to continue into the middle of the week as the region warms into the 70s once again.  Today we reach the 60s followed by the low 70s on Tuesday. Wednesday will begin the cool down as we spike in the middle 60s ahead of a rainy period.

The dry and mild weather will be changing to a wet pattern beginning on Thursday.  There will be a weak cold front that is slated to cross the Cascades during the early morning hours of Thursday. This will provide the cooler air along with some rainy and cloudy weather.  The rain will be light, but will provide some slick roads and reduced visibility due to road spray.

Thursday will be the beginning of several days of light rain and some high level snow. This pattern change is due to the series of cold fronts that will cross the Pacific Northwest beginning Thursday and continuing until at least Monday.

The rain will not be all that impressive, light showers mostly, but it will be persistent.  The rain will be off and on, and by the end of the period the High Desert will see only about a half inch of rain, but areas along the east face of the Cascades, like Sisters, may see as much as an inch and a half.

The crests of the Cascades are going to see periods of snow that may be impressive for this late in the season. Amounts are yet to be determined but current estimates are in the 6 – 18” range from Thursday to Next Monday.

Travel over the mountain passes will be slick from Thursday through early next week.
