Hot pattern returns heading into the weekend

The weather conditions are heading back to the very hot pattern we experienced at the beginning of the month.  Highs Thursday and Friday are likely to be over 100° as we kick off the new month on a hot note.  The ridge of high pressure is going to develop over the area and establish the hot pattern once again. Remember to stay hydrated and in the shade as much as possible.

The wildfires continue to produce smoke for our region and I am expecting to see an increase in the smoky haze over the next couple of days.  The flow of air is likely to arrive from the south and southwest as the hot air arrives around the dome of hot air.  This may tap into the smoke from the mega fires in Northern California allowing for more smoke to invade Oregon.  The Park Fire is nearly 400k acres and burning a lot of timber, which is producing a lot of smoke. If the winds tap into that smoke, southern Oregon will be impacted greatly with very poor to dangerous air quality.

There is a slight chance for some rain Saturday, south of Deschutes County, but still possible. Once again, the amount of rain will not be enough to impact the fires, but it will slow them down a bit. The wind associated with the showers may do more harm than good with respect to firefighting.

July has been a very hot month with several records shattered.  Tomorrow Shannon Brady and I will show you the heat related records that fell this month and the wildfire activity that is going down in the record books as well.
