Mild weather and mostly cloudy today, rain arrives early Sunday
The mild pattern will be with us for one more day as the mercury in the thermometer will rise near 70 again today. There will be a bit of a fly in the ointment as the skies will become cloudy as the day moves along. A slight shower can’t be ruled out later today over the Cascades, but generally it will be a dry day. The clouds this afternoon will serve as a preamble to the rain that is slated to arrive after midnight.
Sunday will be much cooler as the rain arrives a few hours after midnight tonight. There will be some mountain snow before the sun comes up, so we are making a quick switch from well above normal to slightly below normal as far as temps go. The chance for the rain to linger all day is low as I expect to see off and on showers
The rain and mountain snow return on Monday with the chance for more accumulating mountain snow as well as a bit of a mix in the high desert. The mix of rain and snow will be off and on, but by the end of the day the main issue Monday night will be slick roads as bridges and overpasses may ice up.
Tuesday will provide a break in the wet pattern but not the chilly weather. Highs on both Monday and Tuesday will be around 50 in the afternoon and near or below freezing overnight.
Wednesday will see the return of rain and mountain snow as we continue to see a chance for snow along the 97 highway corridor. The snow along 97 will not accumulate, but it will provide slick roads, especially at night when temps dip into the sub-freezing zone for a few hours.
On the mountains, the total snowfall may exceed one foot at the highest elevations.
There is also a very slight chance, not zero, that we may see some snow on Halloween.
