Cold weekend ahead, slightly milder next week

The run of temperatures in the 50s has come to a close and the arctic air is now in place for the weekend.

Expect to see the mercury in the thermometer struggle to get above 30 this weekend as the dry and cold air will set up.  The temperatures overnight will be dipping into the single digits overnight with light winds and dry air, so prepare yourselves properly if you are heading out for an early morning walk or stroll.

The pattern shift is a result of and area of low pressure into our area from the northeast.  Not always the normal path that we see, but it is not unheard-of.  The low will provide a brisk east and northeast blast of air that will be about 20 degrees colder than what we measured Thursday.

Sunday will be another lovely and crisp day with plenty of sunshine to go around. The temperatures will start out in the single digits and low teens, then rise to the middle 30s in the afternoon.  Mostly sunny skies will define the day with a light breeze as well.

Monday will be the start of a mild warm up as we get back into the 40s. There will be a ridge of high pressure riding over the area which will help get us back to normal as far as temperatures go.

Tuesday looks dry and slightly milder as we head back to the upper 40s to low 50s by the middle of the week.  The next chance for some rain will not be until the end of the week or possibly the weekend.

Please stay safe.

There is an air stagnation advisory in place for portions of the viewing area. The light winds and high pressure pushing down on the surface has trapped the smoke and other pollutants in the area leading to poor air quality. It is suggested, not required, that outdoor burning be limited and that wood burning stoves and heaters be limited as well. The air stagnation advisory is in effect until Monday
