Partial clearing, followed by bitterly cold week ahead
Today we are seeing snow on the crest of the Cascades as the tail end of a weather event clears the Tri-counties. Expect partly cloudy skies this afternoon and tonight as we get some dry air overhead for a change.
Tonight, will be another cold night as the mercury in the thermometer drops down into the teens in Bend, single digits in La Pine and Sisters. This will be a small hint or foreshadow of what is to come in the next several days as bitter air becomes the dominant weather feature.

Sunday will be dry and colder as the region settles in for a long period of bitterly cold conditions. Expect to see sunny to partly cloudy skies Sunday with highs only reaching the middle to low 30s once again. A shot of much colder air arrives overnight into Monday with highs for the first part of next week only hitting the 20s.
Monday will be one of the coldest days we have seen since mid-January last year when we had highs of 5, 19, and 12 on the 13th – 14th – 15th. That was a bitter stretch of cold air. I am not forecasting that this week, but it will be cold each day next week. Our normal high temperature is around 45 for early February, so the low 20s for highs is quite a bit lower than normal. The temps will be even colder as the week moves along.
The next chance for us to see some snow will not be until Thursday when another round of snow arrives and hangs around into Friday (at least).
