Snow possible overnight, otherwise dry and cold this weekend, bitter cold next week

The latest snow event brought a couple of inches of snow to the Bend area, some pockets of higher amounts, overall it was a decent cold snow event in the area.  The winds blew the snow around last night and some drifts were seen after the sun rose off the horizon. Then it was sunny and cold.

Tonight I expect to see some snow showers arrive from the west and deposit a new layer of snow on the mountains.  The snow will fall over the high desert in the early morning hours, but only add about an inch to the snow already on the ground.  Roads early in the morning will be slick and dangerous at lower elevations, but generally Saturday will be a cold and dry day once the snow ends in the morning.

Sunday will be dry and colder as the region settles in for a long period of bitterly cold conditions.  Expect to see sunny to partly cloudy skies Sunday with highs only reaching the middle to low 30s once again. A shot of much colder air arrives overnight into Monday with highs for the first part of next week only hitting the 20s.

Monday will be one of the coldest days we have seen since mid-January last year when we had highs of 5, 19, and 12 on the 13th – 14th – 15th.  That was a bitter stretch of cold air.  I am not forecasting that this week, but it will be cold each day next week. Our normal high temperature is around 45 for early February, so the low 20s for highs is quite a bit lower than normal. The temps will be even colder as the week moves along.

Prepare your home and vehicle for some bitter cold air.

The next chance for us to see some snow will not be until Thursday when another round of snow arrives and hangs around into Friday (at least).

Please stay safe.
