Winter Storm Warning in effect, persistent pattern of precipitation through the weekend

The rain and snow will be present each of the next several days as waves of precipitation move through Oregon.  The mountains will receive the bulk of the precipitation, in the form of snow, as they are going to squeeze out as much as they can. That leaves the high desert to deal with less rain and snow, but still problematic travel issues.

A variety of Winter Alerts are expected to be issued through Monday. Currently a Winter Storm Warning is in place until Thursday at 11 pm. The Bulk of the snow is likely to fall on the mountains, but lower elevations will be icy/slushy and windy.

Thursday will see a wave of rain and snow early in the day, when temps are cold enough to support the mix. Not much left after the morning rush hour, but the roads will be slick.  The areas south of Lava Butte will be dealing with wet snow while other High Desert areas should see mostly rain (after about 10 am).  Prepare for a sloppy commute early, followed by some clearing.

Friday will be similar in timing as snow and rain cross the region in a wave before noon.  Once again, timing will impact the morning drive.

A Winter Storm Watch is in place until 5 pm Saturday, will likely be replaced by a warning Friday when more information is available.

Saturday will be dreary to start with some pockets of snow and rain mixed south of Bend.  As the day moves along we begin to track the last in the series of rain/snow events.  This will be overnight into Sunday and then again most of Sunday.

The heavy wintry mix will arrive late in the afternoon and continue into Sunday. The temperatures will be warm enough to support mostly rain, but heavy/fat snow will mingle in with the rain overnight. The rain and snow continue into Sunday.

Minor flooding is a concern late in the weekend.

Please stay safe.
